When I told Bénédicte, 90 years old,
that I was taking her to see Au monde, D’une seule main, Les marchands, she asked if I was joking.

When I told her about Pommerat,
she asked if it was champagne.

When I told her it was at
the théâtre2gennevilliers,
she smiled:

'Ah, I hear it's all changed now!'

And so we went to see a trilogy
in which family secrets are state secrets, too.
In which the future of the world is played out within the walls of an apartment where a woman tells the story of her experience of poverty, and despair…		Because when there's theatre, there's writing, too.

When there's writing, there are pages.
When there are pages, there's space.

When there's space, there's a stage.

When there's a stage, there's theatre.

And we come back, again and again.

The Compagnie Louis Brouillard is the resident company of the Théâtre de Brétigny-sur-Orge (since 1997), and the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord (since 2007, for a period of three years).

The company receives state funding (DRAC Ile-de-France /
Ministry of Culture,
Conseil Général de l’Essonne, Ville de Brétigny-sur-Orge)
and support from the City of Paris and the 
Ile-de-France Regional Council.

 

Born in 1963, Joël Pommerat is a writer and stage director. He set up the Compagnie Louis Brouillard  in 1990.

His published work includes Pôles (Actes Sud-Papiers / 2003), Grâce
à mes yeux (Actes Sud-Papiers / 2002), Au monde
(Actes Sud-Papiers / 2004), D’une seule main
(Actes Sud-Papiers / 2005), and Les marchands (Actes Sud-Papiers / 2006). A number of his texts have been translated.

 

Joël Pommerat:

'All that interests me on stage is to make something happen – physically and imaginatively – something to fill an empty space. Something mysterious and enigmatic. My shows talk about what's missing. The essential is that which cannot be expressed in any other way, that which cannot be summarised.'
